BAGUIO CITY – A car carrying six passengers hit the railings of a flyover in Magsaysay Avenue, Baguio City after its driver lost control of it, resulting in the death of two in an early morning accident on Wednesday.
The fatalities were identified as Cherry Lyn Sasa Monte, 24, resident of Padang, Pongayan, Kapangan, Benguet who was also the driver, and Rodel Polano, 18, resident of Bangao, Buguias, while Fe Serafeno, 25, resident of Supang, Itogon, Benguet was wounded and is now on stable condition at the hospital.
Three other passengers, Dariel Pacalso, 21, and Marson Sab-it, 18, and a minor, were reportedly unharmed and were immediately sent home.
According to Corporal Ramil Pacio, traffic investigator of the Baguio City Police Office, the vehicle was coming from the direction of the city proper when, upon reaching the curve portion of the Magsaysay flyover, it suddenly veered towards the opposite direction and hit the railings of the bridge.
Due to the strong impact, the vehicle continued to move and fell down on the right side of the flyover.
Monte, the driver, sustained serious injuries that eventually caused her death.
Polano and Serafeno were immediately rushed by the responding Emergency Medical Services (EMS) to the Baguio General Hospital, but the former died at the hospital.
