Two Abu Sayyaf members surrender

ZAMBOANGA CITY -- Two members of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) surrendered to the military authorities in Sulu Province last Tuesday, April 5, 2022 after reportedly fearing for their lives.

Maj. Gen. Ignatius Patrimonio, Joint Task Force Sulu Commander, identified the two ASG members as alias Udar, 42 years old, a resident of Panamao Municipality; and alias Al, 42, a resident of Luuk.

Al is a follower of sub-leader Idang Susukan and the late ASG sub-leader Alhabsy Misaya.

The two ASG members also turned over high powered firearms and ammunition to the 4th Marine Brigade in Barangay Tandu Bato, Luuk, Sulu.

The two admitted they fear for their lives and expressed exhaustion over evading government forces.

“Despaired by the terrorist group’s deception, the two decided to end their armed struggle and return to the folds of the law,” said Maj. Gen. Patrimonio.

Lt. Gen. Alfredo Rosario Jr., Western Mindanao Command chief, urged the remaining ASG members to return to the fold of the law.
