RCSU says there are 28,794 illegal firearms in W. Visayas


ILOILO CITY -- There are around 28,794 firearms across Western Visayas region which would be illegal if their owners do not renew their licenses.

Colonel Eduardo Abaday, chief of the Regional Civil Security Unit (RCSU) stressed owners of these 28,794 firearms have not yet renewed their licenses and permits this year.

Without the necessary licenses and permits, the owners of these firearms could be violating Republic Act No. 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.

The RCSU which is under Police Regional Office Region 6 recently launched a program precisely to encourage gun holders to renew their Licenses to Own and Possess Firearms (LTOPFs).

The Iloilo province has the most illegal firearms with 6,307, followed by Negros Occidental province with 5,689 illegal firearms.

There are 4,692 illegal firearms in Iloilo City, 4,645 in Bacolod City, 3,389 in Capiz; 1,774 in Aklan province, 1,748 in Antique province, and 540 in Guimaras province.
