The Manila Police District (MPD) is all set to handle the security and public safety measures for the activities during the Holy Week observance.
MPD director Police Brig. Gen. Leo "Paco" Francisco coordinated with the leaders and organizers of Quiapo Church activities to ensure safety and to strictly implement the minimum health protocols.
The procession of the replicas of the revered Black Nazarene will start at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, April 6.
Francisco assured that the number of the police that will be deployed to the area is enough to secure the public.
At least 100 vehicles with the replicas of the revered Black Nazarene are expected to join the procession that will start on Carriedo Street and will end in Quiapo Church.
The MPD advised the devotees to wear face masks and observe physical distancing during the procession.
The procession of Black Nazarene replicas is a showcase of centuries-old personal collections of sacred images that have been cared for and passed on for generations by devotees, and a manifestation of Filipinos’ deep faith, trust, and devotion to the black image of Jesus Christ. (Terence Ranis)
