A police checkpoint in Malolos, Bulacan intercepted a motorist who was found carrying a firearm and a grenade inside his vehicle on Tuesday, April 5.
Col. Rommel J. Ochave, acting Bulacan police director, identified the arrested suspect as Fernando Alejo, 50, of Barangay San Juan, City of Malolos. He will be charged with violation of Article 151 of the Revised Penal Code and Republic Acts 10591 and 9516 in relation to the Omnibus Election Code on gun ban.
Alejo was arrested at a checkpoint manned by the 1st Provincial Mobile Force Company (PMFC) as the lead unit and the City of Malolos police in Barangay Bulihan.
Police said the suspect was on board a black SUV when he was flagged down for routine inspection. But instead of slowing down, Fernando sped on, hitting the checkpoint signage.
He was immediately arrested by the police. A pistol was found inside his vehicle which led to a further search. Also recovered were one cal.45 Armscor pistol, one 9mm revolver, one MK2 hand grenade, and cash money in different denominations.
The suspect and the confiscated pieces of evidence are under the custody of 1st PMFC for investigation except for the MK2 hand grenade which was turned over to the Bulacan Provincial Explosive Canine Unit.
Ochave said the Bulacan PNP will continue to strengthen its implementation of the Omnibus Election Code and its anti-criminality campaign to eliminate threats to the community as the election period draws near.
