Elon Musk is world’s richest man in Forbes list


Tesla’s Elon Musk emerged as the world’s richest man, ousting former Amazon president Jeff Bezos, Forbes Magazine revealed on Tuesday, April 5.

Musk topped the annual list for the first time with a net worth of nearly $219 billion.

Bezos, who spent the last four years as the richest person in the world, landed on the second spot with a net worth of $171 billion.

The third wealthiest person in the world is Bernard Arnault of luxury goods company LVMH, with a net worth of $158 billion.

Microsoft founder Bill Gates is fourth with a net worth approximately $129 billion.

Completing the top five list is Warren Buffet of Berkshire Hathaway with a net worth of $118 billion.

Rounding up the Top 10 world’s billionaires are Larry Page ($111 billion), Sergrey Bin ($107 billion), Larry Ellison ($106 billion), Steve Ballmer ($91.4 billion), and Mukesh Ambani ($90.7 billion).

According to Forbes, there are now 2,668 billionaires worldwide, a number down from last year's record 2,755.

"The most dramatic drops have occurred in Russia, where there are 34 fewer billionaires than last year following Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine, and China, where a government crackdown on tech companies has led to 87 fewer Chinese billionaires on the list," noted Forbes Even so, Forbes said it has found more than 1,000 billionaires who are richer than they were a year ago.

There are also 236 newcomers who have become billionaires over the past year, including the first ever from Barbados, Bulgaria, Estonia, and Uruguay.

The US, meanwhile, still leads the world with 735 billionaires worth a collective $4.7 trillion.
