55 Cebu City barangays already virus-free

CEBU CITY -- Fifty-five out of the 80 barangays here are already without Covid-19 cases, according to the city's Emergency Operations Center (EOC).

“Out of the 727 tested, only four got positive. That’s a .55 percent positivity rate,” said City Councilor and EOC chief Joel Garganera, in reaction to the April 5 EOC bulletin.

As of April 5, the city only has had 58 active Covid cases.

“This is good as we open up and more activities are allowed at full capacity,” Garganera said.

Despite the decreasing number of Covid-19 cases, Garganera reminded the public to continue observing the basic health protocols.

Garganera said the campaign season has resulted in regular mass gatherings which could lead to a possible spike of new cases if basic health protocols are not observed.

“With political gatherings happening left and right, let us not be out of focus that our number one enemy is complacency. Still, we have to comply with the basic health protocols, we can do this,” Garganera said.

Garganera said the city has also stepped up its vaccination drive for minors.

The city, he said, is bringing Covid-19 vaccines closer to the public by conducting vaccinations in mountain barangays.

“We are saving time and resources by bringing our vaccination to the barangays,” said Garganera.

The city is also prioritizing students in the inoculation drive to ensure their safety in the upcoming reopening of face-to-face classes.

“This will make our parents at ease. They don’t have to worry for their children when they get to school,” Garganera said.

The city has already vaccinated 841,427 out of the 1,126,637 adults who registered for vaccination.
