14 organizations cited for quality management


Fourteen Filipino organizations have been recognized by the government for their quality management, the Department of Trade and Industry said.

DTI Secretary Ramon M. Lopez, chairman of the Philippine Quality Awards (PQA) that recognizes quality management of Philippine organizations, cited the record high awardees in the PQA history at the recent awarding ceremony. Lopez noted that the number of awardees was achieved amid the pandemic.

“I am grateful that organizations like you who committed to foster global competitiveness emerged in this opportune time. Your inclusion in the roster of Team Quality is a big boost to our advocacy,” Lopez said as he commended the recipients for serving as inspiration for others to aspire for an innovative Philippines. PQA is a program under the DTI.

The PQA 24th Assessment Cycle resulted into three recipients of the Recognition for Mastery in Quality Management or Level 3 which include Department of Labor and Employment Region IX; Mariwasa Siam Ceramics, Inc.; and, National Kidney and Transplant Institute. For the

Recognition for Proficiency in Quality Management or Level 2, the six (6) recipients include Department of Labor and Employment XI; Department of Science and Technology-CALABARZON; Isabela State University – Echague Campus; Philippine Science High School – Ilocos Region Campus; Sultan Kudarat State University; and, Tarlac State University. Meanwhile, the list of recipients of the Recognition for Commitment to Quality Management or Level 1 comprised of Camarines Sur Polytechnic College; Department of Education Schools Division Office of Balanga City; Industrial Technology Development Institute - Department of Science and Technology; Department of Science and Technology – Cordillera Administration Region; and, Marinduque State College.

DTI Undersecretary Blesila Lantayona led the conferment of the PQA Regionalization Program Recognitions to four pioneer organizations: Rainiers Research and Development Institute, Inc. and Construction Manpower Development Foundation from the National Capital Region (NCR) garnering the PQA Regional Levels 1 and Level 2, respectively. In Region 7 or Central Visayas, two organizations from the academic sector received the PQA Regional Level 1 Recognition - Cebu Institute of Technology-University and Cebu Technological University.

The PQA Program is a global competitiveness template that aims to encourage and engage public and private organizations and other stakeholders to strive for and attain global competitiveness with PQA for Performance Excellence or Level 4 as the highest level of national recognition for exemplary organizational performance.

The PQA Program, patterned to the very prestigious Baldrige Performance Excellence Program in the U.S., is a national award program that recognizes achievements of public and private sector organizations in their journey towards performance excellence. It has four award and recognition levels with Level 4 as Philippine Quality Award for Performance Excellence and Level 3 as Recognition for Mastery in Quality Management.

The program was created on 1997 through Executive Order 448 to improve economy-wide productivity and promote global competitiveness and was institutionalized through Republic Act 9013.
