“Ang heat stroke ay delikadong kondisyon, kaya ang bawat pamilyang Pilipino ay dapat na mag-ingat sa mga problema dulot ng sobrang taas ng temperatura (Heat stroke is a dangerous condition, so every Filipino family should be careful of these health problems due to high temperature),” said PRC Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Senator Richard Gordon in a statement.

Heat stroke and heat exhaustion are common during the dry season. It is also associated with food poisoning, diarrhea, and recreation-related injuries, the PRC said.

The PRC gave tips to avoid the said health conditions:

-Stay hydrated. Replenish water intake often. Drink water only from safe sources. If unsure, boil the water.

-Wash hands frequently with soap and water. Maintain proper hygiene at all times.

-Eat only well-cooked food since under-cooked food spoils quickly.

-Observe proper food handling and storage.

-Eat more of fruits, vegetables, and other nutritious foods.

-Apply sunscreen lotions with SPF 30 or greater for skin protection.

-Use wide-brimmed hats and umbrellas when outdoors.

-Wear light-colored cotton clothing.

-As much as possible, limit sun exposure from 11am until 3pm.

-Try to do outdoor activities in the morning or in the late afternoon hours when it’s cooler.

-Use mosquito repellent when needed.

-Cover mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing. When blowing your nose, do it gently.

-Remember to avoid direct contact with persons you suspect to be infected.
