Mayor Isko vows to urge UN members to 'recognize' The Hague ruling

Presidential hopeful and Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso on Sunday, April 3, said he will personally go to the United Nations (UN) and ask its members to recognize the Hague ruling to put a stop to the militarization of China in the West Philippine Sea.

“Unang una, ‘yang mga bansa na ‘yan, (first of all, those countries), most likely hindi kakampi sa atin (they will not side on us) for their personal reasons. But there is a venue -- UN General Assembly. Iboto niyo po akong presidente (vote me as president), and I’ll make sure I will go to the general assembly at sisingilin ko ang lahat ng miyembro ng UN (I will make the members of UN repay) to recognize the Hague ruling,” he said during the Commission on Elections’ (Comelec) Presidential Debates 2022 Part Two.

“Kung tayo ay tinatawag naman na nagkakaisang bansa, at mayroon tayong obligasyon sa isa’t isa bilang nasyon. bakita bakit kayo’s naniningil ng aming obligasyon gusto niyo tuparin nami pero kung kami na naniningil parang walang dumadating na tulong sa amin (If we are called a united nation, and we have obligations to each other as a nation. Why is that when you are demanding our obligation you want us to fulfill it but when we demand it seems like no help is coming to us),” he pointed out.

The Manila mayor also said he will still continue to trade with the neighboring nations in the region, while insisting on the validity of the Hague ruling.

“But I will not tolerate what happened in the Masinloc incident. Any foreign vessel entering into our sovereign territory, I'll make sure they'll be decorative items under the sea within the Philippine ocean,” Domagoso added.
