Gibo denies UniTeam disrespected Ninoy Aquino’s memory

The UniTeam alliance led by Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and running mate Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte drew flak for disrespecting a statue of Aquino during a UniTeam rally in Tarlac.

A media tent at the UniTeam rally was placed directly in front of the statue, and located at the base was a plastic bag full of garbage. Teodoro claims that this was not done on purpose.

“We gave respect with our words to everybody. The UniTeam is not here to disparage anybody and I’m sure if there was such an incident, this would be inadvertent,” Teodoro told reporters on Sunday, April 3.

“Our message is one of unity and mutual respect. So, if there was an inadvertent happening then it wasn’t on purpose. We’re so busy on our message of oneness and unity,” the Senate bet added.

Tarlac is considered the opposition bailiwick considering it is the home province of the Aquino family.

Teodoro also explained that the UniTeam's sortie in Tarlac was not an attempt to revise history.

“You ask the people whether that’s historical revisionism or not. After EDSA, there was revisionism. So now the people are just doing what they feel will bring back their lives, will bring the Philippines forward, and not history and not turning accusations left and right. We’re here for the future, a forward-looking agenda for the people. That’s what we’re here for,” he claimed.

Teodoro was referring to the historical EDSA revolution which ended the Martial Law era.

The EDSA revolution saw the ouster of late dictator and kleptocrat Ferdinand Marcos Sr. from power, the exile of the Marcos family from the Philippines, and the snap election of the late Cory Aquino as president.

Somewhere around 3,257 cases of extrajudicial killing (EJK), over 30,000 cases of torture, and 70,000 arrests are believed to have taken place during Martial Law.

UniTeam is led by Marcos Jr., son of Marcos Sr., and Duterte, daughter of the incumbent president.
