Candidate for Malasiqui councilor shot, wounded in assassination try


PANGASINAN – A candidate for councilor of Malasiqui, Pangasinan was shot and wounded while waiting in front of his family’s house in Barangay Talospatang Sunday night, April 3, 2022.

 Alexis Mamaril, a former barangay chairman and currently a barangay kagawad (councilor) was shot several times at around 7:50 p.m. by still unidentified gunmen.

Mamaril, who is a physician by profession, was rushed to the Universal Health General Hospital in Cabatling, Malasiqui.

Probers said the victim was standing at the back of his sports utility vehicle, which was parked in front of his house, when the gunmen attacked him.

Mamaril was waiting for the packed meals his family prepared before he could proceed to his campaign sorties on Sunday night.

The victim sustained gunshot wound in the right cheek, chest, and right arm, according to the police.

Personnel of Malasiqui Police  requested the Forensic Unit Urdaneta City to process the crime scene.

 All adjacent municipalities were still conducting dragnet operations for the possible arrest of the suspects, according to Senior Master Sergeant Jeffrey C Padilla and  Corporal  Silvestre P De Luna Jr, investigator –on-case.
