MPD on alert as Ramadan starts on April 3

The Manila Police District (MPD) has been placed on alert status for the observance of Ramadan which will start on April 3.

MPD director Brig. Gen. Leo "Paco" Francisco said that members of the MPD Special and Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) and the Tactical Motorcycle Riding Unit have been deployed to secure mosques around the city, particularly the Golden Mosque in Quiapo and the other site in Baseco Compound in Tondo.

Francisco said that they had a meeting with Muslim leaders to ensure the security of Muslims during the entire month of Ramadan.

Previously, the MPD joined the Filipino Muslims in the observance of Ramadan.

The Ulama of Darul Ifta headed by Bangsamoro Mufti Abuharaira Udasan has declared that the holy fasting period of Ramadan will begin on Sunday, April 3, 2022.

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar when Muslims commemorate the first revelations of the Quran to Prophet Muhammad.
