Cool Smashers rout Flying Titans, inch closer to finals

Creamline’s experience trumped Choco Mucho’s youth with a 25-18, 17-25, 25-19, 25-11 victory Friday to close in on a return finals appearance in the Premier Volleyball League Open Conference at the jampacked Arena in San Juan.

Tots Carlos went on attacking spree and fired away with a match-high 26 points while team captain Alyssa Valdez quietly worked her way to a 17-hit effort she laced with two blocks and two service aces.

The win thus gave the Cool Smashers a 1-0 edge in their best-of-three semis duel and could seal a finals berth with a win in Sunday’s Game Two, which will now be played at the bigger MOA Arena in Pasay City.

PVL president Ricky Palou announced the venue change to accommodate all the fans including the ones who were not able to get inside the venue in Game One, which drew over 5,000 paying patrons.

Game Three, if necessary, is set on Tuesday also at the MOA Arena, which is also host Game One of the finals.

Game Two and, if necessary, a decider, will be played at the Ynares Center in Antipolo City.
