Man jailed after taking his live-in partner hostage inside comfort room


MANAOAG, Pangasinan -- A man was put into jail after he injured his live-in partner during a 30-minute hostage-taking drama inside a comfort room at Barangay Pugaro this town Thursday.

Suspect Alfie Barlaan, 40, single, and a resident of Zamora St., Brgy. Poblacion, Manaoag, Pangasinan was a former live-in partner of the victim, Letecia, 48, and a resident of Brgy. Pugaro, Manaoag, Pangasinan.

Investigators said the suspect arrived armed with the bladed weapon at the house of his former live-in partner and forcibly destroyed the main door of the house.

While inside, the suspect took hostage the victim and put her inside the comfort room for more than thirty minutes.

Concerned citizens reported the incident and the responding policemen immediately negotiated with the suspect.

The suspect surrendered with the help of Barangay Captain Bonifacio Bigay.

Confiscated from him was one bladed weapon measuring thirteen inches from tip to handle.

The victim was released with bruises on her back and arm.

Both the victim and suspect were brought to Manaoag Community Hospital for medical treatment. Attending physician found out that the suspect was under the influence of liquor.

A case for violation of illegal detention, grave threat, alarms and scandal, malicious mischief, RA 9262 and Slight Physical Injury is being readied against the suspect.
