Comelec Commissioner George Garcia said the areas set to have peace covenants are Zamboanga City, Basilan, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, General Santos City, Maguindanao, and Cotabato City.

On Tuesday, the poll official attended the peace covenant signing in Catbalogan, Samar representing Chairman Saidamen Pangarungan.

Days before Pangarungan was also in Marawi City for a similar event.

Garcia explained why the peace covenant was first held in Marawi and Samar.

"These are not critical areas of concern but more to highlight the improved security situation and the relative peace prevailing even during the start of the campaign period," he said.

"We want them to become models of how we conduct the elections peacefully," Garcia added.

The Comelec is expected to announce this week the areas of concern for the May polls.
