113 barangays in Baguio City declared drug-free


BAGUIO CITY – The Baguio City Police Office reported that 113 out of 128 barangays in this Summer Capital have been declared as drug-free, 11 are under operations, while four are not affected BCPO Community Affairs Division chief Judy Jasmin Palicos made the declaration during the City Anti-Drug Abuse Council’s first quarter meeting chaired by Mayor Benjamin Magalong.

Palicos revealed that the drug-affected barangays are Lourdes Subdivision Extension, Dominican Hill, Fairview, Pinget, Lower Magsaysay, Sto. Nino Slaughter, Gibraltar, Loakan Proper, Kayang Extension, Irisan, and Bakakeng Central barangay.

The police attributed the successful clearing of the 113 barangays from the police’s relentless anti-drug campaign since last year.

Palicos said that from October to December 2021, the BCPO conducted 42 anti-illegal drugs operations with 37 buy busts; one service of search warrant; and four service of warrants of arrest.

From January 1 to March 20, this year, the operatives conducted 39 operations including 38 buy bust activities and one service of search warrant.

According to the report, the BCPO seized drug evidence worth P703,696 including 95 grams of shabu and 480.8 grams of marijuana from October 1 to December 31, last year. About P449,663 worth of drug evidence was seized from January 1 to March 20, 2022, including 62.66 grams of shabu; 141 grams of marijuana and 60 ml of marijuana oil.

Magalong, who is also CADAC chair, encouraged those present in the meeting to continue working together with the government to sustain the city’s anti-illegal drugs campaign and make Baguio a ‘drug-free city’.
