Baste Duterte wants his dad to endorse Marcos


POLOMOLOK, South Cotabato—Davao City Vice Mayor Sebastian "Baste" Duterte admitted that he wants his father, President Duterte to endorse the presidential candidacy of UniTeam's Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.

Vice Mayor Duterte represented his sister, UniTeam vice presidential bet Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte, at a UniTeam rally in Polomolok Municipality Gymnasium in South Cotabato on Sunday, March 27.

It was on the sidelines of this event that he said there are signs that President Duterte is going to endorse Marcos's Palace bid.

"Hindi pa natin alam (We don't know yet), but there are signs noh na nakita natin na Partido Demokratiko Pilipinas—Lakas ng Bayan (PDP—Laban) nag-release na ng statement na (like PDP—Laban's statement that says) they're supporting BBM (Marcos Jr.) so I hope the President will express his support to BBM," Vice Mayor Duterte bared in an ambush interview on March 27 here.

PDP—Laban's Cusi faction, which President Duterte chairs, previously endorsed Marcos but the Palace has remained mum on whether or not the Chief Executive himself gave the nod to this endorsement.

Asked if he personally wants his father to back Marcos's aim of becoming president, the vice mayor said, "Of course."

In that same rally, UniTeam Senate bet Harry Roque claimed that President Duterte would endorse Marcos's campaign, although the President has yet to release any official statement.

"As far as I know sa Davao mataas talaga siya (it's high). More than 80 percent, 85 percent. We're trying to push for 90 percent," Vice Mayor Duterte added, referring to the province's support for Marcos Jr.
