“President Duterte is determined to ensure an honest, orderly, and peaceful election as part of his greatest journey of his presidency with the support of the Defense—of the military and the PNP officials,” he said in his speech during the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) Peace Covenant Signing with Comelec.

Pangarungan, who was appointed by Duterte on March 8 as head of the poll body, said they will implement the wish of the president.

“We will do everything in our power to ensure an honest and peaceful election. That’s what President Duterte wants.”

Candidates present in BARMM’s Peace Covenant Inking read and signed Comelec’s integrity pledge printed on a white tarpaulin.

Other Comelec officials present during the covenant signing were Commissioner George Erwin M. Garcia and Commissioner Aimee T. Neri.

Pangarungan, Garcia, and Neri were recently appointed by Pres. Duterte to fill the vacated positions in the poll body.

Upon their installation, Pangarungan and Garcia have been pushing for transparency in Comelec.
