In a statement, the group said the two are the most qualified to lead the nation.

"In our collective discernment, we, the overwhelming majority of the Vicariate Lay Representatives constituting the core group of the RCAM Council of the Laity, have come to the conclusion that Maria Leonor 'Leni' Robredo and Francis 'Kiko' Pangilinan are the persons most qualified to lead our nation as President and Vice President respectively,"

At the same time, they said, they acknowledge with due respect the preferences of some of their colleagues.

"Finally, we seek the prayerful blessing of our beloved father and Archbishop, His Eminence, Jose F. Cardinal Advincula, Jr., as we make this crucial choice for God-loving servant leaders," said the group.

Last month, the Sangguniang Laiko ng Pilipinas (LAIKO) also expressed their support for Robredo.

"With our current political-economic turmoil and the pandemic situation in the Philippines, we firmly believe that Vice President Leni Robredo, a God-fearing person, is the most capable candidate for the Presidency, and we urge our constituents, if possible, to consider the same," said LAIKO President Raymond Dakiel Cruz Jr. in a statement.

"Hence, we explicitly endorse Vice President Leni Robredo to the highest position of our land," he added.
