ILOCOS SUR – Ilocos Sur was recently named as one of the Top Performing Local Government Units for systematically carrying out the vaccination effort among its constituents.
While everyone can get vaccinated, the national government created a priority system to simplify the job.
The award was given by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) in cooperation with the National Covid-19 Task Force and other national agencies, during the recently-held National Vaccination Day under the A2 Doses Accomplishment category.
The Covid-19 vaccination effort started in 2021 which paved the way for the return to normalcy for many Filipinos.
The A2 category comprises all senior citizens and is second only to frontline health workers in priority. Because of their advanced age and other health issues, senior citizens need to get vaccinated first as their weakening immune system makes them more susceptible to the virus and its deadly effects.
Ilocos Sur Governor Ryan Singson welcomed the commendation, saying that the region’s success would not have been possible if not for the efforts of all the local government officials in the different cities and municipalities of the region.
“We all worked in close coordination with health officials and other government agencies to ensure that we would be able to efficiently distribute the vaccines to our constituents,” said Singson.
“This was possible because we believed in the seriousness and the urgency of vaccination as one of the best measures to combat Covid-19,” he said. (Robbie Pangilinan)
