More than 10,000 schools offering basic education nationwide are currently implementing limited face-to-face classes in areas under Alerts Levels 1 and 2, the Department of Education (DepEd) on Wednesday, March 23.
In a virtual presser, DepEd Assistant Secretary Malcolm Garma said that based on the quick count as of March 22, there is a total of 10, 196 schools that are implementing limited face-to-face classes.
Of this number, 9,994 are public schools and 212 are private schools.
Garma also reported that there is a total of 14, 396 public and private schools submitted by the regions that are nominated for the progressive expansion phase of the limited face-to-face classes with 2, 600, 773 learners.

Based on the quick count on the number of participating schools that have started implementing the progressive expansion of limited face-to-face classes, Region III has the most number of schools that have resumed in-person classes in 1,809 schools.
This is followed by Region VIII with 1, 536 schools; Region IX with 1,333; and Region V with 1, 164 schools.
In the National Capital Region (NCR), there are 292 schools --- 265 public and 27 private --- that are implementing limited face-to-face classes.
Garma said that DepEd has been presenting data based on the quick count since regional directors have been given the authority to select schools that will participate in the progressive expansion limited face-to-face classes.
“However, we need to to validate and put some corrections on the numbers, but nevertheless, what we provide you are the actual numbers that come from our Regional Offices through our planning officers,” he added.
