CEBU CITY -- A separate petition seeking a P346 to P399 wage increase in Central Visayas has been filed.
The Alyansa sa Mga Mamumuong Kontraktwal sa Sugbo or Alsa Kontraktwal-Cebu filed the petition before the Regional Wages and Productivity Board-Central Visayas (RTWPB-7) on Tuesday afternoon.
The group is pushing a uniformed minimum wage of P750 a day for the entire region.
“The current wage rate in Central Visayas is too low which practically tramples the dignity of workers and their families,” the local group, represented by Lorenzo Galbero, said in a statement.
The current daily minimum wage in Central Visayas is at P404.
The group added workers badly need a wage increase due to the ill-effects caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
“The effects of the pandemic and super typhoon Odette and now aggravated by the successive increase in the prices of petroleum products which likewise resulted to the increase of the prices of basic commodities and services including transportation, electricity, water, etc. have made the lives of the workers miserable,” the group said.
Alsa Kontraktwal-Cebu is the second labor group to file a wage hike petition in the region.
The Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (TUCP) has also filed a petition that seeks to increase the daily minimum wage in Region 7 to P804.
