PNP probes alleged hazing-related death of Laguna student

The Philippine National Police (PNP) has vowed justice for the death of an 18-year old student at the hands of fratmen allegedly during his initiation rites.

PNP chief Gen. Dionardo Carlos said an order was already issued to the Laguna police to conduct an in-depth investigation into the death of Remark Rebutazo.

Rebutazo left their home early morning of March 20 and told his grandmother that he would see some friends. He did not go back.

The family only knew of what happened to Rebutazo after they were informed that the latter was in a hospital. He was already dead.

Police said Rebutazo died of serious injuries he sustained during initiation rites by the Tau Gama Fraternity.

The initiation rites reportedly occurred in a mountainous area in Barangay San Juan.

“Police investigators will study the autopsy report so as to identify the extent of injuries and the objects used against the victim. I am also instructing our probers to identify the suspects the soonest possible time,” said Carlos.

"The PNP is also urging other possible victims to cooperate and explain the circumstances that led to this unfortunate incident," he added.
