Bishop Macaraeg, chairman of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines- Episcopal Commission on the Laity, issued the reminder during the recent Laiko Online Conversation series of the Sangguniang Laiko ng Pilipinas, which seeks to guide voters in the coming elections.

The Church leader cited the need to heighten voters’ education campaigns to guide the voting population in choosing the right leaders for the country.

"The May 9, 2022 election is fast approaching and anything that gives us information or guidance to make a proper decision of whom to vote for in this coming election is of great value and importance,” the bishop said over Radio Veritas.

The theme for the discussion was “The Truth Shall Set You Free.” Issues discussed include the widespread infodemic like the proliferation of fake news especially at this time as the election nears.

Laiko president Raymond Daniel Cruz, Jr. said, the online conversation highlights the need to spread the right and true information.

“The truth will set you free. We hope to elect people we can trust,” Cruz stressed.
