Senator Christopher ‘’Bong’’ Go on Tuesday, March 22 said that the law amending the Public Service Act would be beneficial for the Philippine economy.
‘’This measure, in effect, promotes healthy competition across various industries which can pave the way for favorable prices and quality services for Filipinos,’’ Go said of the measure that allows 100 percent foreign-owned companies in specified sectors.
‘’Mas maraming mamumuhunan, mas maraming pagtatrabahuhan at kabuhayan para sa mga Pilipino (Filipinos will be able to have job opportunities due to increased investments and livelihood). Mas liliit ang bilang ng mga naghihirap at nagugutom na mga pamilya (There will be less number of poor and hungry families),’’ he added
‘’Napag-aralan naman ng Kongreso ang posibleng implications nito lalo na sa national security at iba pang areas of potential concern (We, in Congress studied the implications, particularly national security and other areas of potential concern). Masusi pong pinag-usapan sa komite at sa plenaryo ang mga provisions ng batas upang malagyan ng sapat na safeguards sa pagpapatupad nito (We put safeguards in the measure when we discussed it in the committee and plenary session),’’ he added.
Go said he put his trust in President Duterte when he signed the measure, putting the national interest and welfare of Filipinos as his prime consideration.
‘’Napapanahon na rin naman ang pag-amyenda sa 85 taong gulang na batas na ito upang maging akma ito sa mga bagong hamon ng panahon, lalo na ngayong sinisikap nating makabangon mula sa kasalukuyang pandemya (It is really time to amend this 85-year-old law to make it attune to the times),’’ he added.
In a related development, Go also said the President’s decision increasing the P200 monthly ‘ayuda’ (financial assistance) to needy families to P500 monthly showed the President’s concern for the poor.
