“Ang katotohan po G. Marcos Jr ay kailanman ay hindi po fake news. Ang tunay na fake news ay pagtatwa sa katotohanan para patuloy na lituhin ang mga Pilipino (The truth is Mr. Marcos Jr. is never fake news. Real fake news is a denial of the truth to continue to confuse Filipinos),” Aksyon Demokratiko Chairman Ernest Ramel said during a press conference at the headquarters of the Isko Moreno Domagoso for President in Intramuros, Manila.

Marcos had earlier claimed that there was a lot of “fake news” involved in the issue of his family’s alleged ill-gotten wealth.

Ramel, meanwhile, maintained that telling the truth is not defamation, and is not a product of negative campaigning, saying the Supreme Court has already ruled on this.Aksyon Demokratiko to BBM: Telling the truth is not ‘fake news’

The Aksyon Demokratiko party on Monday, March 22, called out former Senator Ferdinand Marcos Jr. for confusing the public, saying that telling the truth was never fake news.

“Ang katotohan po G. Marcos Jr ay kailanman ay hindi po fake news. Ang tunay na fake news ay pagtatwa sa katotohanan para patuloy na lituhin ang mga Pilipino (The truth is Mr. Marcos Jr. is never fake news. Real fake news is a denial of the truth to continue to confuse Filipinos),” Ramel said during a press conference at the headquarters of the Isko Moreno Domagoso for President in Intramuros, Manila.

Marcos had earlier claimed that there was a lot of “fake news” involved in the issue of his family’s alleged ill-gotten wealth.

Ramel, meanwhile, maintained that telling the truth is not defamation, and is not a product of negative campaigning, saying the Supreme Court has already ruled on this.

He also added that the Presidential Commission on Good Government (PCGG) and the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) have both denied the previous statements of Atty. Vic Rodriguez, spokesman of Marcos Jr.

“Ultimo ang Department of Finance ni Pangulong Duterte ay inutusan ang BIR na nasa ilalim nito na kolektahin na ang naturang P203B estate tax (Even President Duterte's Department of Finance has ordered the BIR to collect the P203B estate tax),” he added.

Ramel pointed out that the real issue is the character of someone who wants to become a president.

“Ang tunay na isyu po dito ay ang karakter ng nais mamuno sa ating bansa. May isang kandidato na tapat na nagdeklara ng labis sa kanyang sumobrang pondo sa kampanya noong 2016 at agad nagbayad ng karamptang buwis (The real issue here is the character of those who want to lead our country. There was one candidate who honestly declared too much of his surplus campaign funds in 2016 and immediately paid the appropriate taxes),” he said.

“Pero may isang kandidato na 25 taon na mula ng inutusan ng Korte Suprema na magbayad ng takdang estate tax pero sa pamamagitan ng mga mamahaling abogado at malakas na impluwensya at kapangyarihan ay hindi marunong tumalima sa pamahalaang nais niyang pamunuan (But there is a candidate who has been ordered 25 years ago by the Supreme Court to pay a fixed estate tax but through expensive lawyers and strong influence and power, he does not know how to obey the government he wants to lead,” he continued.

Ramel then proceeds to cite the successful projects and programs of the Aksyon Demokratiko standard bearer Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso, including his efforts of restoring various parks and landmarks in the City of Manila, several housing projects, and the construction of several hospitals and modern schools.

The party chairman also lauded Domagoso’s pandemic response in the city.

“Ihambing natin ito sa walang ningning na pagganap bilang gobernador ng siyam na taon (Let’s compare this to the lack of performance as governor of nine years),” Ramel said.

“Sa tingin ninyo sino ang may kakayahang mamuno at ulitin ang nagawa sa kanyang pinamunuan sa susunod ng anim taon bilang pangulo? (Who do you think is capable of leading and repeating what he has led in the next six years as president?)

Ramel then assured that the proceeds from these tax debts will be used to help the Filipino people.

“Tama na po ang pagtatago sa mga mamahaling abugado na mahilig lamang lituhin ang taumbayan (Stop hiding from expensive lawyers who only like to confuse the people),” he said.

“Malinaw po at ang katotohanan ay nasa harapan na po nating lahat (It is clear and the truth is in front of us).”

Ramel had also earlier asked the BIR for a copy of its letter demanding the Marcoses to pay its P203-billion estate tax, saying the letter is a "public document imbued with much public interest."
