As the election day nears, the University of the Philippines Law (UP Law) Center Training and Convention Division, together with the Commission on Elections (Comelec) conducted a live training program for the military officers of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).
“The training featured relevant discussion on constitutional and electoral laws as well as the Omnibus Election Code. The program likewise discussed matters relating to security, such as the proper use of firearms and the guidelines that must be followed in the operation of checkpoints,” said UP on Friday, March 18.
Speakers of the training program were COMELEC representatives John Rex Laudiangco and Jayvee Villagracia, as well as lawyer and lecturer Marwil Llasos.
Aside from the constitutional and electoral laws, matters such as the public safety and the do’s and don’ts during the election day were likewise discussed.
“The training seminar’s purpose is to provide the military with a guide on legally monitoring the elections,” said UP, quoting Department of Energy (DOE) Undersecretary and Vice Chairperson of the AFP Reserve and Command Multi-Sector Government Council Felix William Fuentabella.
The live training program was held last March 11, 2022, said UP.
