PH's 1st electric multiple train set unveiled

Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Arthur Tugade on Friday, March 18, officially unveiled the country's first-ever eight-car Electric Multiple Train Set for the Philippine National Railways (PNR) Clark Phase 1 (Tutuban-Malolos) at the Malanday Depot, Valenzuela City.

The 160-meter train set is the longest Electric Multiple Unit to date in our country, and is expected to serve around 2,228 passengers each train set.

Meanwhile, 12 eight-car train sets are expected to be delivered to the country within this year for a more seamless, efficient, safe, and comfortable travel experience.

Once completed, the PNR Clark Phase 1 will significantly reduce travel time between Tutuban in the City of Manila to Malolos City, Bulacan from one hour and 30 minutes to just 30 minutes.

On the other hand, the 53-kilometer PNR Clark Phase 2 (Malolos-Clark) has registered a 35.78 percent overall progress rate as of January 2022.

The project will reduce travel time from Malolos City, Bulacan to Clark, Pampanga from 2 hours to just 30-35 minutes.

It also features the first-ever Airport Railway Express Service that will connect Makati City to Clark International Airport from the current 2-3 hours travel time to just 55 minutes.
