PH foreign policy must be handled by career experts, says Gibo

Senatorial candidate Gilbert Teodoro on Friday said the country’s foreign policy should be handled by career experts.

Teodoro, a former secretary of the Department of National Defense, said he believes the Philippine’s foreign policy would be more stable if it is handled by career professionals and not by politicians.

The former Tarlac congressman pointed out that due to geopolitical tensions across the world, foreign policy has become a complex matter that should be carried out by experts form the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) and the DND.

“Our career experts from DFA and DND should be the one guiding our political leaders on what should be our foreign policy,” said Teodoro, who is running for senator in the upcoming May 2022 elections, under the UniTeam Alliance of former senator Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos, Jr. and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte.

“This is a concern of national security and of national interest that shouldn’t be politicized,” the 1989 Bar topnotcher said.

He said the country should push for an independent foreign policy but alliences with nations that have the same visioin as the Philippines would help in ensuring national security.

“In the field of foreign affairs, our national interests must come first,” he stressed.
