CAMP VICENTE LM, Laguna – Investigators found persons of interest upon review by the Special Investigation Task Group (SITG) ‘America’ of the CCTV footage in areas where an attempt to assassinate Mayor Filipina Grace R. America of Infanta, Quezon happened, 18 days ago.
Police Regional Office 4A regional director Brig. Gen. Antonio Yarra said the SITG “America” conducted its 3rd conference along with Election-Related Incident Validation Committee Conference presided by the Provincial Director of Quezon Police Provincial Office, Col. Joel Villanueva.
In that conference, Yarra reported that there were sworn statements from four personalities in a development that could provide leads and link evidence to the persons of interests identified in the CCTV footage by the investigating team.
Also the Regional Forensic Unit-4A has already conducted cross matching examinations on the recovered pieces of evidence.
According to initial information gathered by the local authorities, Mayor America is said to be strongly against the quarrying activities in Infanta, Quezon. Based on America's statement, she was receiving threats which she also mentioned are related to politics and her current administration.
America, who is running for another term as Mayor of Infanta requested for sufficient time to give her statement to the authorities which would aid the investigation, Yarra added in the report.
“We are not ignoring the two possibilities regarding the motives of the shooting of America. Our SITG “America” was activated to coordinate all efforts of police investigative units to identify the suspects and resolve this case,” said Yarra.
The slay attempt against America happened on February 27, 2022 in the morning at the Poblacion 1 while she was attending mass. America was wounded in the incident.
