Local candidates in Muntinlupa City held a unity walk and signed a peace covenant on March 17, promising to conduct honest, peaceful and orderly elections.
The signing of the peace covenant was held at St. Peregrine Laziosi Parish in Barangay Tunasan.
Candidates who are running for congressman, mayor, vice mayor and councilors in Muntinlupa in the May 9 elections attended the signing organized by the Commission on Elections (Comelec), Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) and the Philippine National Police (PNP).
Among those who attended the event were candidates of the One Muntinlupa political party led by congressional bet and incumbent Mayor Jaime Fresnedi, mayoral candidate and incumbent Rep. Ruffy Biazon and Vice Mayor Artemio Simundac, and People’s Reform Party (PRP) mayoral candidate Red Marinas and vice mayoral candidate Oyo Boy Dioko.
In Muntinlupa, two are running for congressman, four for mayor and two for vice mayor.
Fresnedi, who is in his third and last term as mayor, is running for congressman against Silverio Garing of PDP-Laban.
Biazon is running for mayor against Marinas, Nelson Benjamin and Oscar Marmeto.
Incumbent Simundac is running for reelection against Oyo Boy Dioko of PRP.
In the peace covenant signed by all candidates, they pledged to observe the following:
"1. To focus on our respective platform of government and to refrain from attacking the personal lives of my fellow candidates during the campaign period;
"2. To avoid vote-buying, all forms of election fraud and the use of threats;
"3. To refrain from spending beyond what is lawfully permitted during the campaign;
"4. To be held accountable for the actions of our election/campaign leaders;
"5. To accept nobly the results of the election and to respect whatever will be the decision of the people this coming May 9, 2022."
