The Hatchery aims to provide the fingerling requirements of fish farmers in the province.

The hatchery project will also reduce mortality during transport as experienced by fish farmers who used to get their fingerlings from neighboring provinces.

Fisheries experts from DA-BFAR served as resource speakers during the Hands-on Training on Grow-out Culture and Management of Freshwater Species at barangays Cabugao and Dumabel in Aglipay, Quirino. Fishpond owners participated in the training witnessed by Dr. Emma L. Ballad, Mr. Christopher B. Casco, Provincial Fisheries Officer of Quirino, BFAR aquaculture experts, and LGU staff.

On February, the Department of Agriculture-Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources in Region 2 (DA-BFAR R02) in coordination with LGUs, dispersed 5,537,806 pcs of milkfish (bangus) fingerlings to target fisherfolk beneficiaries in Cagayan as part of the agency’s continuing efforts to boost fish production.
