Lacson says Robredo’s camp sent him ‘feelers’ to withdraw from 2022 presidential race

Presidential candidate Senator Panfilo M. Lacson on Monday, March 14 revealed that a ‘’’mediator’’ from the camp of fellow presidential candidate Vice President Leni Robredo sent him ‘’feelers’’ which to him sounded that they want him to withdraw from the race.

Since other presidential bets were, likewise, sounded out, Lacson said he took this to mean that Robredo wants to do battle alone against presidential candidate former senator Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. in the forthcoming May 2022 elections.

As the fight would hopefully be a two-cornered one, the Robredo camp reportedly theorized that the Vice President’s chances of winning would be better.

There were’’feelers’’ to other presidential candidates that they too withdraw from the race, Lacson said.

The ‘’feelers’’ took place recently, he added.

Results of various surveys continue to show Marcos leading the pack.

During a press conference in Cauayan, Isabela today, Lacson maintained that he and his running mate, Senate President Vicente C. Sotto III, would not step down from they separate electoral races.

‘’For the nth time, ‘di kami aatras (we will not withdraw),’’ he added.

“Gusto talaga nila masolo (They really wanted to engage Marcos in the presidential fight alone),” he said.

Robredo had said that her running against Marcos was meant to show that she really won in their 2016 vice presidential race.

Marcos lost at the Supreme Court in his bid to unseat Robredo and to show that he really won the race.

The younger Marcos later took issue on the rationale behind Robredo’s intention to run against him which was to show that she really won convincingly in the recent presidential fight.

During a press forum, Marcos said he is running because he has a platform to benefit the Filipino people.
