Why Katrina Velarde didn't make it to 'American Idol'

Did you know that Katrina Velarde could have been among contestants on "American Idol?"

That is, if not for complications concerning her travel papers.

On Facebook, the singer shared that last year someone from the reality competition series reached out to her, asking her to audition virtually.

She did.

According to her, she sang for her audition 5 a.m. Philippine time.

"Kaloka dzai. Producers of the show were watching and more. I remember a lot of an amazing singers from different countries auditioning," she related.

Katrina actually passed the auditions.

But a problem arose.

She didn't have a visa then, something she needed to audition in person.

"It's always the VISA...Sayang," she said.

Katrina is not sulking though, thinking things happened for a good reason.

"Pag hindi pa talaga time, it's not going to happen," she said.

She then told fans: "So dont rush, because there's no shortcut. Might be a long way but if God wants you in there, then you will be."

Last year, the social media personality also known as Suklay Diva mourned the passing of her husband, world-renowned drummer and producer Mike Shapiro.
