Mayor Isko says he can just walk around Davao City after Sara Duterte banned motorcades

TARLAC CITY, Tarlac — Presidential candidate and Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso on Tuesday, March 8, said he will still campaign in Davao City even after its mayor, Sara Duterte, banned motorcades in the city.

"Pwede naman ako maglakad sa Davao (I can walk around in Davao),” Domagoso said in a chance interview here.

He then reiterated that everyone was welcome in Manila, and that no permit was needed.

"Basta welcome sila sa Maynila. Sa Maynila, hindi kailangan ng permit," he said.

Duterte had earlier announced that all political caravans and motorcades in Davao City were prohibited.

Among the reasons cited for prohibiting these activities included the increasing cost of fuel, traffic jams, economic losses from the pandemic coupled with rising prices of basic commodities.

Asked if the Manila mayor would impose the same order to save fuel, he just said: “Why not?”

Oil prices worldwide have surged to over $100 per barrel since the tensions between Russia and Ukraine escalated last Feb. 24.
