3 nabbed for illegal gambling in Caloocan City


Three persons caught in the act of illegal gambling were arrested by the police in Caloocan City on Tuesday, March 8.

The Northern Police District (NPD) Special Operations Unit (DSOU) identified the suspects as Evelyn Solano, 35; Ma. Angelica Tayag, 24; both residents of Barangay Longos, Malabon City; and Ruben Barroa, 50, from Dagat-dagatan, Caloocan City.

Police said they received a tip on the "Lotteng" activity - a combined game of lottery and "jueteng" numbers game - at Blk 3, Lot 12, Phase 3-1 E-1, at Kaunlaran Village on Tuesday. They went to the location at around 6:10 p.m. and caught the suspects.

A police poseur bettor gave P50 to Solano who was the collector of bet money during the activity. The suspect handed the officer a receipt which led to her arrest.

Tayag and Barroa were also caught placing and collecting bets.

Authorities recovered P8,015 bet collection, two pieces of bet receipts, a printer, and a cellphone.

The suspects will be charged for violation of Presidential Decree 1602 as amended by Republic Act 9287, police said.
