A total of 27 detainees, or persons under Philippine National Police custody (PUPC), were injured when a fire hit a custodial facility of the Taguig police at Taguig City hall on March 4.
According to the Southern Police District (SPD) the blaze started at about 12:11 p.m. at the Taguig police’s custodial facility located at the city hall compound in Barangay Tuktukan.
The SPD said the 27 injured detainees were brought to the Taguig-Pateros District Hospital for treatment.
The Taguig police said they immediately informed the Bureau of Fire Protection-Taguig, Taguig Rescue and Substation 6 in Barangay Ususan to respond to the incident.
The Taguig City Fire Station put the fire under control at 12:27 p.m. and the blaze was put out at 12:35 p.m. Firefighters are conducting an investigation to know what caused the fire, which damaged P9,000 worth of properties.
A video uploaded by the Fort Bonifacio Fire n Rescue Volunteer Inc. Global Pumper 41's on Facebook showed detainees being supervised outside the jail facility while firefighters checked the extent of the damage caused by the fire.
One injured inmate is seen in the video being put on a stretcher. The police also distributed bottled water to the affected inmates.
The Facebook page and video have since been deleted.
