Rob Gomez wants to succeed on his own merit

Rising hunk actor Rob Gomez is slowly carving a name in showbiz.

He's doing so minus the benefits given to his family's name.

To those not in the know, Rob is the son of former actress Kate Gomez, daughter of the late, great awarded actor George Estregan.

Rob could have easily gone on to use either Estregan or Estrada as screen name but he's firm on making it big on his merit.

Last year, made his film debut under respected director Erik Matti in "A Girl and A Guy."

Prior, the 24-year-old appeared in "Pidol’s Wonderland" on TV5.

He also co-hosted GMA7's "Walang Tulugan with The Master Showman" for a time.

In a recent interview, Rob related proudly that he has improved a lot since then.

And he's more confident now.

He's doing so believing it necessary.

"I have to up my level," was how he put.

He's always grateful whenever his co-workers give him compliments for his efforts.

He's also thankful to those people who trusted him and gave him chances.

"I don't wanna reach anyone. I don't wanna surpass anyone. I wanna set my own bar," he declared.

Does he feel any pressure coming from a well-known showbiz family?

Not at all, said Rob, noting how everyone in the clan is supportive of him.

He shared how his uncle Gary Estrada, even gave him acting tips.

Rob denied using his family to gain roles, pointing out he entered showbiz through "luck" and "skill."

"It was never really about the family name. But I am happy that I give the family name a little bit pride right now," he said, noting he is the most active of the clan at the moment.

But he teased Gary will be staging a comeback in GMA.

Apparently, Gary was inspired seeing Rob in "Mano Po Legacy: The Family Fortune."

"Hopefully I get to work with him. He's really a good actor," Rob quipped.
