Dela Cruz smashes national record anew in 50m breaststroke


Thanya Dela Cruz smashed the national record anew in the women's 50-meter breaststroke evetnt on the first day of the 2022 PSI (Philippine Swimming Inc.) Friday, Feb. 25 at the Teofilo Yldefonso Swimming Complex in Manila.

The 19-year-old Dela Cruz of Ayala Harpoons Swimming Club finished the race in 32.43 seconds to erase her previous mark of 32.89 seconds during in the 2021 PSI National Selection Bubble in Capas, Tarlac last October.

Dela Cruz, who plans to suit up for Ateneo, also won the 50m freestyle in 27.95 seconds.

Meanwhile, Rafael Isip of Harpoons ruled the 50m breaststroke (30.06) while Seb Wong of the Quezon City Buccaneers Swim Club won the 50m freestyle (23.94).

Miguel Barreto, also from Harpoons, dominated the men's 400m freestyle with 4:13:08 and the 200m individual medley with 2:13:97.

Chloe Daos of the Buccaneers took charge of the women's 400m freestyle with 4:37:99 while Xiandi Chua of the All-Star Swim Club led the 200m IM with 2:23:31.

Buccaneers' Pierre Chan and Mishka Sy took home their respective wins in the 100m backstroke with 30.06 and 1:08:91.

Raymund Paloma of the Nautilus Club won the men's 1500m freestyle with 17:23:65 while All-Star's Hannah Sanchez clocked 19:22:46 in women's play.
