The Pasig City local government recognized 57 child development centers and 59 child development workers in the city that have earned high-level accreditations and certifications from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) on Monday, Feb. 21.
The awarding ceremony was led by Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto and Ma. Teresa Briones, the officer-in-charge of the Office of Social Welfare and Development.
The centers were accredited for compliance to the standards set in the Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) programs by the standards unit of the DWSD - National Capital Region (NCR).
Some 45 child development centers earned a level three accreditation or outstanding rating that is valid for five years.
Meanwhile, 12 centers received a level two accreditation or very satisfactory rating with a validity of four years.
Majority of the 59 accredited child development workers acquired level three accreditations or highly competent ratings that are valid for five years.
Certificates were awarded to 13 teachers representing 13 child development centers in barangays Bambang and Pinagbuhatan for cluster one.
Some 12 centers and 15 teachers were awarded for cluster two, consisting of barangays Kalawaan, Kapasigan, Palatiw, Sagad, San Joaquin, San Nicholas, Sta. Cruz, and Sto. Tomas.
For cluster three, 15 teachers and 16 child development centers in barangays Bagong Ilog, Bagong Katipunan, Sta. Rosa, Buting, Caniogan, Kapitolyo, Oranbo, Pineda, and San Antonio were recognized.
A child development center in Barangay San Antonio was under the ECCD unit, and another was under the barangay committee on education.
Nine teachers and nine centers in Barangays Dela Paz, Santolan, and Manggahan were awarded for cluster four, while seven teachers and seven centers in Barangays Maybunga and Rosario were awarded for cluster five.
Sotto hailed the efforts of the child development workers in acquiring high ratings amid the limitations presented by the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.
Despite halting operations in the past two years, he said the local government will heed the requests of childcare workers for the repair and renovation of the daycare centers, as well as addition and improvement of equipment in the facilities.
“Habang ini-improve natin ‘yung mga daycare centers na ‘yan, although matagal pa naman ‘yung next accreditation, sigurado po na mas tataas pa ‘yung mga ratings o mga levels natin. Habang palapit na ng palapit ‘yung face-to-face, kasama na po diyan ‘yung paghahanda ng mga centers natin (While we are improving our daycare centers, although it is too soon until the next accreditation, our ratings and levels will surely increase. As face-to-face are nearing, we are making sure our centers are prepared),” Sotto added.
