"Please be aware that someone is using the name of Bishop Marvyn Maceda, Bishop of San Jose de Antique in soliciting an amount for a chalice to be used in an ordination," the diocese said in a Facebook post.

"There is no such ordination and this is a scam. Please be careful," it further read.

In 2020, the Catholic Bishops ' Conference of the Philippines warned the public against a scam using the name of some bishops to solicit donations.

Then CBCP Secretary General Father Marvin Mejia issued the warning after Kidapawan Bishop Jose Colin Bagaforo informed them of the scam which already victimized some of his friends.

"Beware of a scam going on, targeting some bishops and their contacts: scammers asking donations for some bogus projects in the dioceses by fraudulently using the name of some bishops or his diocese," he said in a Notice.

"Bp. Jose Colin M. Bagaforo of the Diocese of Kidapawan has reported to the CBCP that some of his friends had been victims of this evil scheme using his name. We urge everyone to be vigilant and to take much precaution by double checking with the bishop concerned or his office/chancery, if such request happens," added Mejia.
