'Fashion for Others': Celebs and style creatives band together for a Siargao fundraising initiative

Using fashion for a good cause

After its efforts benefiting healthcare workers and medical frontliners during the height of the pandemic, fashion rental shop Vestido is now aiming to help, support, and empower communities in Siargao. Last December, Siargao and other locations in the Visayas and Mindanao regions were hit by Super Typhoon Odette, leaving places in devastation and people in need of assistance.

Dubbed “Fashion for Others (FFO),” the digital fashion auction features items from fashion designer Martin Bautista, stylists Pam Quiñones, actors Bea Alonzo and Jericho Rosales, pieces from Vestido’s archives, among others. Their goal is to help rehabilitate the island, raise funds for livelihoods, and provide survival packs to people in need.

“We sought out friends with good hearts and great style to donate special fashion and home pieces for a benefit sale,” it says. “We aim to extend a hand to the island by hosting an online auction of big-ticket clothing and home pieces. 100 percent of the winning bidder's profits will be donated to our beneficiary partners.”

Each of its beneficiary partners has a focused mission in supporting the people of Siargao. The funds will help Lokal Lab Farm Project in aiding farmers and ensuring food security, Lotus Shores Rebuilding Fund in restoring homes, Next Gen in providing communications and water to communities, and Harana Rehabilitation Project in producing homes for its displaced staff.

The online auction started early this February, and pieces are still up for bidding. Items like Bea’s Aquazzura nude stilettos, Steph Gonzales’ Diane Von Furstenberg top, Vestido’s Marni necklace, and more are still up for grabs.
