Duterte inaugurates SMC-backed SLEX project in Alabang

President Duterte inaugurated on Wednesday, Feb. 16, the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) northbound entry in Alabang, Muntinlupa that is connected to the Skyway system.

Duterte commended the Department of Public Works and Highways (SMC) and private companies San Miguel Corporation (SMC) and Citra Metro Manila Tollway Corporation, saying its completion showed Filipino resiliency amid the challenges brought by the pandemic.

The Sucat-Alabang Skyway Extension has reduced the travel time from two hours to 30 minutes between Muntinlupa City to Balintawak, Quezon City as the project addressed the traffic congestion in SLEX and Skyway.

The formal opening of the SLEX Elevated Extension provided motorists direct access to and from the elevated Skyway from Susana Heights to Sucat, Parañaque and vice versa, significantly easing at-grade traffic.

The project can accomodate 200,000 vehicles per day and complete the seamless connectivity between SLEX, Skyway, and North Luzon Expressway for faster and more efficient travel, transport of goods, and trade throughout Metro Manila and the provinces.

SMC President and Chief Executive Officer Ramon S. Ang was present during the event while DPWH Senior Undersecretary Rafael C. Yabut, who delivered the welcome remarks in behalf of DPWH Secretary Roger G. Mercado. Senator Christopher Lawrence Go also attended the opening with Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Arthur Tugade, DPWH Undersecretary Roberto Bernardo and Assistant Secretary Wilfredo Mallari.
