Leni returns to Panay Island stronghold Capiz

ILOILO CITY—Vice President and presidential candidate Leni Robredo has returned to campaign in Capiz, one of the four key provinces of Panay Island regarded as her stronghold.

“Leni! Leni! Leni! Leni! Leni! Leni! Leni! Leni!” was the chant of thousands inside Villareal Stadium in Roxas City, the provincial capital.

Robredo was wrapping up her more than 20-minute speech that ended with a comparison of her 2016 campaign sortie as running-mate of former senator Mar Roxas.  Capiz is home province of Roxas, the grandson of former President Manuel Roxas.

“Noong 2016, ilang beses din kami bumabalik-balik dito. Marami din tao pero magkaiba yung energy ngayon,” Robredo said to a crowd of men and women mostly wearing pink shirts.

The lady vice president was overwhelmed by the rousing welcome of the people of Capiz to her, her running-mate Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan, and some of those in their senatorial slate.

The Leni-Kiko bid is being supported by key local officials, including Mayor Ronnie Dadivas of Roxas City and Capiz 1st District Cong. Emmanuel “Tawi” Billones.

Capiz was the first-stop for the Leni-Kiko campaign sortie in Panay Island this week.

Aside from the motorcade, Robredo and Pangilinan paid a call on Monsignor Cyril Villareal of the Capiz Archdiocese.

They also visited Camp Peralta, headquarters of the Philippine Army’s 3rd Infantry Division (3ID) in Jamindan town.

Team Leni-Kiko is proceeding to Aklan province next.
