84% of Pinoys prefers brains over body—SWS survey


At least 84 percent of Filipinos said they are more attracted to a person’s brains than of body, according to the most recent survey result of the Social Weather Stations (SWS).

Only 15 percent of the respondents said they are more into body than of a person’s brains.

The survey of SWS was conducted from Dec. 12 to 16, 2021 and had 1,440 adult Filipino respondents.

“The percentage of those who prefer brains over body is three points above the 81 percent in December 2019 and December 2002,” the survey firm said.

According to SWS, the preference of brains over body is slightly higher among women with 88 percent, compared to men with 81 percent.

“Compared to December 2019, preference for brains over body rose by five points from 83 percent among women and by three points from 78 percent among men,” it noted.

The survey result also showed preference for brains over body is highest among single women (90 percent), followed by women with live-in partners (89 percent), and married women (86 percent).

SWS said that men’s preference for brains over body hardly varies by civil status, ranging from 80 percent to 82 percent.

Those who prefer brains over the body is highest among 18 to 24-year-old women and lowest among men 55 years old and above

Among women respondents, those who prefer brains over body are highest among the 18 to 24-year-olds (91 percent), followed by the 24 to 34-year-olds (89 percent), the 35 to 44-year-olds (87 percent), the 45 to 54-year-olds (86 percent), and those 55 years old and above (86 percent).

Men’s preference for brains over body is higher among those 18 to 54 years old, ranging from 82 percent to 87 perveny, than among those 55 years old and above, at 73 percent.

SWS said the preference for brains over body rises with education: it is highest among college graduates (92 percent), followed by junior high school graduates (88 perceny), elementary graduates (86 percent), and non-elementary graduates (84 percent).

However, for men, preference for brains over body “hardly varies with education, ranging from 77 percent to 83 percent.”
