Bulacan Medical Center to open Ophthalmology, Visual Sciences department

Governor Daniel Fernando announced that the Provincial Government of Bulacan will open a Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at Bulacan Medical Center (BMC) to provide compassionate care for a variety of vision and eye conditions of Bulakenyos, especially senior citizens.

Fernando said that it is high time to open a Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences in the province because the Eye Center Project at the BMC only operates on cataracts to restore the vision of a patient. It has no glaucoma surgery that involves laser treatment or making a cut in the eye to reduce intraocular pressure.

The announcement was made during the turnover of the 3,296 food packs to Barangay Chairman Bogart Ligon of Sibul Springs village for the families affected by the pandemic.

He said it could help patients with vision problems such as glaucoma, cataracts, adult and pediatric retina, cornea, neuro-ophthalmology, pediatric ophthalmology, external eye diseases, and emergency services.

Fernando also said that the Computed Tomography (CT) scanner of Bulacan Medical Center has been replaced with a brand new CT machine through the assistance of

Department of Health (DOH) Assistant Secretary Maria Francia M. Laxamana.
