Taguig LGU allows basketball, other contact sports under Alert Level 2

The Taguig City government has allowed the playing of basketball, volleyball, football, and other contact sports in the city under Alert Level 2.

The Taguig Safe City Task Force recently issued Advisory No. 67 allowing contact sports in Taguig based on the resolutions issued by the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID).

“Contact sports activities, such as but not limited to, basketball, volleyball, football or any other game or scrimmage that require physical contact between and among players are now allowed,” according to the city task force.

It added: “Participants in contact sports activities in public areas or government owned or managed establishments or venues, whether indoor or outdoor, must register and coordinate with the Barangay where the games will be conducted. Participants must be asked to register using the online registration form at http://bit.ly/TaguigExercises.”

The advisory stated that only fully vaccinated individuals are allowed in contact sports activities held in indoor areas and participants need to present a valid proof of vaccination.

Minors are allowed to engage in contact sports regardless of vaccination status and they “are allowed to join or play with adults, provided that all adult players must be fully vaccinated.”

“Spectators shall be allowed, provided that only fully vaccinated individuals are allowed in indoor areas, provided further that it is within the allowed capacity of the venue where the games will be conducted. In counting the allowed maximum capacity in an indoor sports court or venue, the number of players and spectators are combined or counted together,” the advisory stated.

All participants of contact sports, whether indoor or outdoor, are not required to wear face masks during the duration of the game or activity.

But the wearing of face masks is “mandatory for all spectators, employees and non-coaching staff not actively participating in the game or activity.”

The task force said participants to contact sports in private establishments or areas, including gyms, courts, parks and clubhouses must coordinate and register with the designated safety officer of the establishment or area.

Under the rules, all participants must have a Taguig Registry for Access and Citizen Engagement (TRACE) identification number.

“All employees of private establishments, courts, gyms and other private spaces, as well as administrators or managers of government owned and managed covered and open courts and other areas, must be fully vaccinated,” the task force said.

Other rules are:

- “An administrator or manager of the court, venue or space must be put in-charge of the scheduling of contact sports games or activities in their area or establishment. Schedule of games or activities must be posted in all entrances or conspicuous places of the court or venue, and posted in their social media pages and/or website;”

- “There shall be body temperature checks for employees, participants, and attendees. Those with a body temperature exceeding 37.5 degrees Celsius, or those exhibiting flu-like symptoms shall not be allowed to participate;”

- “All establishments or venues must post health and safety standards and reminders in conspicuous places throughout the venue to ensure compliance with the minimum public health standards; and all establishments must also provide sanitizing stations in strategic areas of the venue.”
