Muntinlupa City’s active coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases have gone down as the National Capital Region (NCR) recorded a drop in cases.
Tally from Muntinlupa’s City Health Office (CHO) showed that as of Feb. 9, Muntinlupa has 130 active cases, a decrease by 101 cases from 231 recorded on Feb. 3.
The health office added 27 new COVID-19 cases, 31 recovered patients and zero deaths on Feb. 9. Muntinlupa currently has 39,615 confirmed cases, 38,878 recoveries and 607 deaths.
On a weekly tally, Muntinlupa had 304 new cases from Feb. 3 to 9 compared to 2,310 new cases from Jan. 27 to Feb. 2, a huge decrease of 1,826 cases or 86 percent.
During the surge in Omicron variant cases in the NCR, Muntinlupa posted the highest daily tally of new cases on Jan. 24 with 4,982.
During the “Laging Handa” public briefing on Feb. 9, OCTA Research’s Dr. Guido David said the positivity rate in the NCR is still high at 9.6 percent with aim of bringing it down to a comfortable level of 5 percent. Positivity rate is the percentage of those who test positive COVID-19 among total tests conducted.
David said the average daily attack rate (ADAR), or level of infection, in the NCR has gone down to 7.
On Feb. 8, the Department of Health tallied 3,574 new cases in the country, a proof that the surge of cases is decreasing.
“Our testing is limited but we see that it is sufficient and not only cases are decreasing, the positivity rate is decreasing, the health care utilization is decreasing, which is the most important metric. In the NCR, it is only 31 percent. When this goes down to 30 percent, which could happen today or tomorrow, the whole NCR can be classified as low risk,” said David.
He said they are hoping that by March, the number of new daily COVID-19 cases in the country will go down to a three-digit level.
