Former Vice President and senatorial aspirant Jejomar Binay said there are still residents affected by Taal Volcano’s eruption in 2020 who still need of assistance for them to fully recover from the disaster.
“Nakakalungkot malaman na dalawang taon na ang nakalipas mula nang pumutok ang Taal Volcano pero hanggang ngayon ay hindi pa rin nakakaahon sa hirap ang marami nating kababayan (It's saddening to know that even after two years have passed since Taal Volcano's eruption, victims have yet to recover from it),” Binay said during the second leg of his Batangas sortie where he visited the towns of Balete and Mataas na Kahoy.
“Aside from helping them with their basic needs, we need to have a long-term program to help these residents and their communities recover and rebuild their lives,” he added.
Binay explained that among these concerns are jobs, livelihood, and decent housing.
The former VP said that he will propose a long-term rehabilitation plan for the towns affected by the volcano's eruption.
“We need a rehabilitation plan that is sustainable, taking into account the economic needs of the affected residents as well as their safety. But at the moment, they still need help from the government agencies concerned,” Binay said.
Binay, who is running for senator under the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA), kicked off his campaign in Batangas on Tuesday, Feb. 4, the official start of the campaign period for those running for national posts in the upcoming May 2022 elections.
He is set to visit next the province of Quezon and Laguna.
